Minutes of a meeting of the Worth Valley Storytelling Guild held at the Haworth Old Hall, Sun Street, Haworth, West Yorkshire on Thursday 24th January 2013 at 8pm.

Present: Adam Sargant, Kevin Campbell-Wright, Jim Pickles, Julie Marie Atkins, Craig Melia

Apologies: Sian Sargant

Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted subject to the following revision –
Jim Pickles had missed himself off the list of those attending!

Matters arising therefrom: A website has been set up.
Bank accounts had been looked in to (see below) There was no specific Chairman’s business
There was no specific Secretary’s business

There was no specific Treasurer’s business

However, the following were discussed:

Bank Account: Various banks had been approached to see what accounts were available. The Co-operative Bank had an account via the Britannia Building Society but this needed two signatories to attend the branch every time a cheque was required.
The high street banks had accounts available but these were not deemed desirable.
The Ecology Building Society had a postal account available.
The Co-operative Bank had an on-line account (with cheque book) available.

It was proposed by Kevin Campbell-Wright, seconded by Adam Sargant and generally agreed that the Co-operative Bank on-line be chosen.

HMRC
Jim Pickles offered to “do the necessary” for registering the association with HMRC.

Marketing, web and branding:
As mentioned in matters arising, the website has been set up.
Craig Melia produced a draft letterhead with logo. It was proposed by Adam Sargant, seconded by
Kevin Campbell-Wright and generally agreed that this letterhead and logo be adopted.
There was a general discussion on the desirability of local branding and the ability of the logo to reflect a more national image, which the letterhead and logo did.
A tag line “Stories Worth Telling” was suggested.
It was considered that the best way of marketing the association would be to hold an event. Adam Sargant and Craig Melia are to confer regarding a press release about the formation of the “Guild”, for the Keighley News and the Worth Valley Magazine.

Fundraising:
Fundraising was generally discussed but at this point in time, all fundraising would be by way of
members’ efforts.

Events:
It was noted that the National Storytelling Week had just been missed.
There are opportunities arising in a cultural festival linked with the Tour de France in 2014. Oakworth Fairy Festival is to be attended via the Haworth Open Storytelling Circle (10/8/2014)

Any other business:
It was considered desirable to forge local links. Examples being Small World, Exchange Arts, Alter Egos. It was also considered desirable to seek local peoples’ stories. Recording equipment is available for recording peoples’ stories as an alternative to having them in written format.

Staging workshops and links with schools were also considered desirable.

It was felt that the association was now ready to invite general membership.

The date, time and location for the next meeting will be Thursday 21st February at 8pm at the
